Recently, Quinton de Kock got the new responsibility of leading the South Africa team in the limited over format. South Africa’s coach Mark Boucher is delighted with the job of the wicketkeeper-batsman. He even feels that de Kock’s decision in the field gives a glimpse of the former Indian captain MS Dhoni.

After de Kock took up the leadership in T20Is and ODIs, the winning rate of Proteas has increased. In the recently-concluded ODI series against England, he took up some outstanding decisions, levelling the series with 1-1. While on Wednesday, he led the team to victory in the first T20I.

Veteran Boucher has praised the captaincy skills of the youngster. He is also hopeful that de Kock will surely lead his country to new heights as Dhoni did for India. Boucher cites Dhoni as an example, who was given the charge ahead of the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 and later, had success in the 2011 World Cup.

“A lot of people questioned MS Dhoni when he was the captain of India but I think he has a great captaincy record. Quinny (De Kock) enjoys being in the game. On the field he leads well‚ he makes good captaining decisions and off the field, he is pretty chilled and that can be good for the youngsters,” Boucher told the media.

“Him opening the batting‚ keeping wicket and captaining can be sustainable in the lead up to the World Cup in 2023. On the field, we always knew that he has a very smart cricketing brain‚ he showed that with different field placings which I thought were very good. He thinks outside the box,” concluded Boucher.

The southpaw de Kock has scored runs in every format for his team. He scored a century in the first ODI and followed up with a half-century in the second ODI.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has imposed faith in him to look out for opportunities ahead of the 2020 T20 World Cup.
