Mayank Agarwal, the Indian opening batter on Sunday said the century against New Zealand in the second Test will remain with him forever.

Mayank Agarwal had registered a century on Day 1 of the ongoing second Test against New Zealand on Friday. This was his fourth Test ton and the batter bettered his score as he hit 150 on Day Two of the second Test.

Mayank Agarwal Tweets That A Test Hundred Is Always Special

Mayank Agarwal became only the 4th India opener to hit two fifty-plus scores in a Test match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Karnataka star followed up his 150 in the first innings with 62 runs in the second. The opener missed out on an opportunity to become only the 7th Indian batsman to hit a hundred in each innings of a Test match.

“Grit, Determination & Resilience. A test hundred is always special and this one will remain forever so,” Mayank tweeted.

Mayank Agarwal has played 16 Tests amassing 1294 runs at an impressive average of 47.93. He didn’t do well in Australia recently and played the two Tests against New Zealand only because opener KL Rahul got injured and another opener Rohit Sharma was rested.

The right-handed batter on Sunday scored 62 in the second innings before getting out on Day three. India managed 276/7 in their 2nd innings before declaring on the 3rd day giving New Zealand an uphill task to chase 540 runs. Mayank Agarwal (62), Cheteshwar Pujara(47), Shubman Gill (47), Virat Kohli (36), and Axar Patel (41*) were the chief contributors with the willow.

Mayank Agarwal got out for 150 in the first innings, becoming one of the 10 victims of Ajaz Patel who became only the third bowler in the history of Test cricket after Jim Laker and Anil Kumble to pick up all 10 wickets in an innings. It was Ajaz Patel who got Mayank Agarwal’s wicket in the second innings as well.

Mayank Agarwal And Shubman Gill Sustained Injuries

Mayank Agarwal was hit on his right forearm and as a result, he didn’t take the field in the second innings of the ongoing Wankhede Test against New Zealand. His opening partner Shubman Gill too didn’t take the field after being hit during fielding in the first innings on Saturday.

India dominated Day 3 of the second Test against New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. New Zealand batters Daryl Mitchell and Henry Nicholls were the only positive for the visitors on Sunday as Kiwis score read 140/5 at the end of Day 3 of the ongoing second Test against India. India defeated New Zealand by 372 runs in the second Test of the two-match series at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday-4th day winning the series 1-0.

Virat Kohli’s side will head to South Africa for three Tests and three ODIs, beginning December 26. The 4 T20Is scheduled alongside Tests and ODIs will be held on the next tour. New Zealand was bowled out for 167, handing the hosts a 372-run win.
