Mayank Agarwal had a successful Visakhapatnam Test match against South Africa. He played his first Test match in Indian soil and scored a double century. Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman praises Mayank’s game.

Mayank in total has played 5 Test matches and out of which four he has played in foreign soil. He made his debut in Melbourne ground where he hit a half-century but was not able to convert that into a century (76 runs). Mayank played his second Test at Sydney where once again he scored 77 runs. He then played in West Indies tour where his performance was low.

The player was then given chance in Indian soil and he grabbed the opportunity successfully. He with Rohit Sharma built a strong opening partnership of 317 runs during the first innings of Visakhapatnam Test. Now the player would be accepted to play same innings in the second Test match. VVS Laxman said that Mayank played with the same strategy as he plays for domestic cricket and that has helped the player. Laxman also added that he has the same potential as Virender Sehwag.

“He (Agarwal) is a solid batsman and has approached this game like a domestic cricket match. Players usually change the way they play in domestic and international cricket, but he managed to maintain his style in both forms of cricket,” Laxman said on Star Sports’ Cricket Live programme.

“His mental toughness and stability are his strength and he plays fearlessly just like his favourite, Virender Sehwag,” he added.

Harbhajan Singh opines Mayank Agarwal as Hardworking.

Harbhajan Singh is also impressed with Mayank’s performance. He explains who his batting style is helping him to get better in the field.

“Mayank Agarwal is a good batsman, he uses his feet well comes forward and hits and also executes reverse sweep shots. He has a lot in store and plays them when and where needed,” said Singh.

“He is a hardworking player; the players who come from domestic cricket background have learned a lot. They come in late but have so much knowledge and experience of the game that they value and understand every opportunity that the game brings to them.

“Rohit Sharma was trying a different game, but Mayank Agarwal stuck to his game played well,” he added.

Meanwhile, India is ready for the second Test match of this series against South Africa which will begin on 10th October at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
