The Sardar Patel (Motera) Stadium in Ahmedabad will be the world’s largest cricket stadium with a maximum seating capacity of more than 110,000 fans, which will be more than twice its previous capacity. The newly-constructed cricket stadium will dethrone Australia’s Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) as the world’s largest stadium.

Motera Stadium has staged one T20I match between India and Pakistan in 2012, which was also Pakistan’s final international match on Indian soil. The stadium also hosted 12 Test matches and 24 ODIs and the last game was held between India and Sri Lanka in November 2014 and after which, it was closed for reconstruction purpose.

Meanwhile, former England skipper Michael Vaughan came up with a hilarious remark after India’s cricket body, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) uploaded pictures of the world’s largest cricket stadium in Motera. The epic pictures of the venue are doing the rounds across social media platforms.

BCCI official Twitter handle had uploaded a couple of pictures on social media and their caption read:

“#MoteraStadium Ahmedabad, India Seating capacity of more than 1,10,000 World’s largest #Cricket stadium.”

Vaughan, however, seemingly took a dig at the stadium as he went on to compare it with Headingley in Leeds, which has a maximum capacity of 17,000 according to ESPN Cricinfo. Vaughan’s caption read: “Almost as good as Headingley !!!!”
