Mickey Arthur Urges PCB to Sack Sarfaraz Ahmed as Pakistan’s Skipper
Pakistan chief coach Mickey Arthur had suggested Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) on removing incumbent Sarfaraz Ahmed from the captaincy role. The sources revealed that Proteas veteran Arthur had recommended the board’s cricket committee to look out for other options.
Pertinently, Arthur’s tenure, along with other support staff, is set to expire on August 15.
Also, the report suggested Arthur had put forth his prediction by saying leg-spinner Shadab Khan should be given the rein of the limited-overs cricket. Besides, Arthur had suggested Babar Azam’s name for the Test leader.
Meanwhile, PCB’s committee had recently reviewed the performance of Pakistan’s team for a minimum of three years. The committee had reviewed the recently-held 2019 World Cup where the Men in Green had failed to make it to the top four.
Arthur wants PCB to remove Sarfaraz from captaincy post:
Interestingly, Arthur has sought for at least 24 months to deliver goods.
Also, the reports surfaced that Arthur had recommended it to the Committee presided by PCB’s Managing Director, Wasim Khan.
“Arthur did have some negative things to say about Sarfaraz’s captaincy skills to the members,” the source said. I need two more years with the Pakistan team and then I can deliver remarkable results,” PTI quoted source, as saying.
Meanwhile, the committee will attend the meeting on August 7 before addressing the PCB’s chairman Ehsan Mani regarding the new management at the helm of affairs.
PCB has availed services of Arthur since 2016. Under his tutelage, Sarfaraz-led Pakistan clinched the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy.
Meanwhile, Arthur has also thrown his hat in the ring by filing his nomination for Sri Lanka’s chief coach.
Also, Men in Green had topped the ICC’s T20 team rankings. But, overall, Pakistan had failed to perform consistently in the 50-over format.
Members not happy with Arthur:
Besides, the members had expressed dissatisfaction following the comments from Arthur during his briefing before the Committee.
“The members were not satisfied with his argument that after the 2017 Champions Trophy the fielding standards of the Pakistan team went down after the forced exit of fielding coach, Australian Steve Rixon. Arthur made a big deal out of Rixon’s sudden departure in August 2018 as he had issues with the PCB management over delayed payments,” sources adding as per PTI.
Also, one of the committee members had suggested Sri Lankan veteran Mahela Jayawardene for the coaching role. Concurrently, Jayawardene is serving as a head coach for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
