ICC Hands Warning to Navdeep Saini for Breaching its Code of Conduct

On Monday (August 19), the world cricket governing body International Cricket Council (ICC) has handed an official warning to Team India speedster Navdeep Saini for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct. The release stated that Saini had violated the Level One of the regulations during the first T20I game against the Windies at Lauderhill in Flordia on August 3.

Thus, he has been hand one demerit point for overdoing his celebration.

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old Saini has starred with the ball a day before. The Haryana-based had been found guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

Subsequently, this particular Article states that actions or gestures during the reaction over batsman’s dismissal, which could provoke players shall be deemed as punishable under the ambit of the ICC’s constitution.

Well, the incident unfolded during the fourth over of Windies’ innings when Saini gets rid of Caribbean wicketkeeper-batsman Nicholas Pooran. He scored 20 with hosts managing just 95.

In that particular game, Saini on his debut had snared three scalps in his four overs. Thus, he has also bagged Man of the Match following India’s four-wicket win over Carlos Brathwaite-led Windies.

Following the verdict, Saini has accepted the sanctioned imposed by match referee Jeff Crowe. Earlier, the on-field umpires Gregory Braithwaite, Nigel Duguid along with third umpire Leslie Reifer and fourth official Patrick Gustard had levelled the charges against Saini before the proposal from higher-ups.

With the admission of offence, Saini won’t face any formal hearing from the ICC.

Furthermore, it becomes pertinent that a player stands banned if he would eventually receive four or more demerit points within a two-year cycle. So, it colloquially means that two suspension points mean a ban for a game. It is further subjected to whatever format comes first at the time of pronouncement.

In the meantime, India has taken an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match T20Is. The rain has marred the second ODI game. It further saw India winning the match by 22 runs based on the Duckworth Lewis (DLS) method.

Guyana will host the third T20I on Tuesday (August 6).
