MS Dhoni Gives Confidence To Players, That Is His Greatness – Deepak Chahar
Deepak Chahar is the latest player to enjoy the services in the Indian Dressing Room. Ahead of playing in the first T20I game against Windies, the fast bowler Deepak Chahar showered words of praises on MS Dhoni for his impact on the youngsters.
The elder brother of Rahul Chahar, Deepak has not only made his T20I debut before the 19-year-old Rahul but also he has played more IPL matches- 34 to be exactly where he has taken 33 wickets.
And although Deepak Chahar failed to make an impact on the 2016 and 2017 IPL seasons, the 26-year-old had a prolific season with Chennai Super Kings earlier this year, picking up 22 wickets in 17 matches, including career-best figures of 3-20 against Kolkata Knight Riders.
MS Dhoni believes Player abilities – Deepak Chahar
Chahar and Dhoni were in the same team, first at Rising Pune Supergiant and then most recently at Chennai Super Kings. While the pacer’s game time was limited at RPS, especially under the leadership of Steve Smith, he emerged as one of the vital cogs for CSK in the Indian Premier League 2019 season, finishing as the third-highest wicket-taker with 22 scalps in 17 matches.
“Mahi Bhai [MS Dhoni] was in Pune [Rising Pune Supergiant] for two years. He had faith in me. In the first year itself, he told me I would get to play, but unfortunately, I got injured in the very first practice match. So I could play only the last two-three matches,” Deepak Chahar was quoted as saying as per Times Now.
Player gets confidence:
“And he told me later, I think before the qualifier or the final, that in their initial planning talks he had said, ‘This guy will play all 14 matches, so let’s talk of the others.’ He had that belief in me. And if Mahendra Singh Dhoni can believe in me so much, it gave me a reason to believe in my own abilities. That is his greatness – he gives players confidence. If someone like him says, ‘This guy is good and he’ll do well’, the player will also feel that he belongs at that level.”
Deepak Chahar broke into the Ranji Trophy squad in 2010, claiming an eight-wicket haul against Hyderabad on debut. He got his IPL break in 2016 (Chennai Super Kings), playing his only ODI so far in 2018.
After a fine time, two cousins from a family get a chance to play for the Indian side together. From the current crop of players, after the Pandya brothers, Deepak Chahar and Rahul Chahar might get a chance to play for their country together in the upcoming T20I series against the West Indies.
