Mumbai Indians Pacer Jason Behrendorff Ruled Out Of IPL 2020
Mumbai Indians’ pacer Jason Behrendorff is all set to miss the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he has decided to undergo back surgery to bring an end to the back problems. The left-arm pacer has had a history of back issues, that also saw him miss IPL 2018.
Since the World Cup 2019, he has been contemplating undergoing surgery. He recently met New Zealand-based surgeon Rowan Schouten to discuss about it. Surgeon Grahame Inglis will be performing the surgery on Behrendorff.
The likes of James Pattinson and Shane Bond also underwent the same surgery and were back to the field. Bond went on to play for long while Pattinson recently made his comeback in Ashes 2019 after missing out on a couple of years due to back issues. He is fit and running and also looks set to play he home Test against Pakistan.
Behrendorff will be travelling to New Zealand with his family soon and will undergo the surgery. It will rule him out for nine to 12 months. He would hope to get fit for T20 World Cup that will be played in Australia next year.
The back issues have seen him not playing first-class cricket since 2017. After his magical spell of 4-0-21-4 against India in his second T20I (in 2017), Behrendorff made many hands turn and also came in contention for Ashes but was ruled out due to a back issue.
In the IPL auction that took place three months later, he was bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs. 1.5 Crores. He had to miss the season due to back issues but played for the four-time champions in IPL 2019, where he scalped five wickets in as many matches.
Behrendorff, with other Australian players playing in IPL, had to leave the tournament early as he was a part of the squad for World Cup 2019.
