According to the latest development, promising batsman, Shreyas Iyer will don the captaincy hat as an interim skipper for the remainder of the competition.

The 24-year-old Iyer had a remarkable run with the bat, as he slammed two hundreds in six matches. He smashed 147 against Sikkim before returning with unbeaten 103 against Madhya Pradesh on 24th of February in Indore.

So far, he has amassed 350 runs in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

But, on the other hand, the right-handed top-order batsman Rahane had a rough time in the shortest domestic version of the game. He could register just 58 runs in six outings.

However, he could manage the highest score of 31. It came against Goa in the ongoing Twenty20 tournament on February 25, 2019. In January, this year, he had a decent run against England Lions in the List A fixtures.

While dissecting about Rahane’s performance in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Rahane got dismissed on thrice without crossing the double-figure mark.

Following the poor show in the recently-concluded Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Mumbai had staged a strong comeback by winning five games to regain the confidence. Concurrently, Mumbai stands top on the Group C ladder owing to an incredible show both with the bat and ball.

Meanwhile, Mumbai is set to face Karnataka in Indore on March 8.

In his recent interview, Rahane urged the national selectors to provide him ample chances in the limited-overs fold.

Meanwhile, Rahane is leading the Indian Premier League (IPL) side Rajasthan Royals (RR). The twelfth edition of the IPL 2019 will commence from March 23.  The defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face-off Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the curtain raiser.

Also, Royals will don the pink jersey for the entire IPL season. They’ll kick off their campaign while locking horns with Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on 25th of March at the Swai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

However, the good news is that Rahane is expected to recover in time to partake in the IPL.
