The outbreak of the coronavirus has halted businesses around the world. The daily wagers are also going to get poorly affected by this pandemic. To help the poor and needy and thrown support behind the government, celebrities are donating funds to the government and NGOs respectively. Bangladesh player Mushfiqur Rahim has also come in front to put his bat, from which he scored his maiden Test double-hundred, into the auction, to raise funds to fight against the deadly virus.
From that bat, Rahim slammed 200 runs off 321 balls in a match against Sri Lanka in Galle in 2013. Also, he became the first Bangladeshi batsman to score a doubleton. So, that bat is special for Rahim from which he created history.
I have decided to put it into the auction: Mushfiqur Rahim
“Definitely, the bat is very special to me because it is attached to history. Not everyone can become the first double centurion for his country. I had a special liking for this bat. But there is nothing more important than human life and so I have decided to put it into the auction,” Rahim said.
“If through this sacrifice I can help one or two people than that will be my biggest achievement. If I find a good response in the auction for the bat then I have got a few more things that I will put up in the auction. I don’t think there is nothing important than helping out people during their time of distress,” he added.
The wicketkeeper-batsman Rahim has registered three double centuries in Test cricket.
Earlier, Rahim, with the other 27 Bangladeshi cricketers, has decided to donate half of their monthly salaries to help fight the COVID-19 disaster. Bangladesh is badly affected by the pandemic as the whole nation is exposed to the risk despite the lockdown. Bangladesh has seen 2,456 positive coronavirus cases and 91 death till date
