Many believe that Rohit Sharma deserves to earn a Test opportunity. The chief selector MSK Prasad has recently claimed that the selection committee will soon discuss Rohit Sharma’s future as a Test opener.

The Indian limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma is currently in the great batting form. Since he has taken the opening batting responsibility in limited-overs cricket, the right-handed batsman has become very consistent. At present, he is the no.2-ranked ODI batsman.

In the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Rohit Sharma finished as the leading run-scorer. He scored 648 runs in nine innings with an average of 81.00. In that tournament, Rohit smashed five centuries, including three consecutive centuries, and one half-century.

Due to his present form, many believe that Rohit Sharma deserves another opportunity in Test cricket. His Test career isn’t shinning like the white-ball career, but many believe that it will be changed soon if Rohit takes the opening batsman role in Test cricket too. The right-handed batsman hasn’t opened in the Test cricket yet. At present, India’s Test opening slots are wide open.

Will Rohit Sharma open in the Test cricket?

MSK Prasad has recently claimed that the selection committee will soon discuss the possibility of Rohit Sharma as a Test opener.

Prasad told India Today, “As selection committee we haven’t met after the conclusion of the West Indies tour. We will definitely take this (Rohit as opener) point into consideration when we all meet and discuss about it.

Rohit Sharma has scored 1,585 runs in 47 Test innings (average 39.62). Though it is not a poor picture, especially when he batted mostly in the middle-order, Rohit was very inconsistent in the past Test cricket. Moreover, his records against the top-ranked Test teams were weaker.

KL Rahul is definitely a great talent – MSK Prasad

Meanwhile, KL Rahul is struggling consistently in Test cricket. However, the chief selector has enough faith in Rahul.

Prasad added, “KL (Rahul) is definitely a great talent. Of course, he is going through a bit tough time in Test cricket. We are definitely concerned about his form. He needs to spend more time on the wicket and regain his touch and form.”

Since the England tour in last year, KL Rahul hasn’t registered a single 50+ score in Test cricket. In last 12 Test innings, Rahul has scored 195 runs with an average of just 17.72.
