Nepal Captain Paras Khadka Creates A Unique Record In T20I Format

Nepal captain Paras Khadka created a unique record in the shortest format of the game when he became the first captain to score a T20I century while chasing a target. In fact, the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have not scored a hundred while chasing. The 31-year old batsman batted at the top of his game to take his team over the line by nine wickets against Singapore in the ongoing tri-series. The right-handed batsman scored an unbeaten knock of 106 from only 52 balls.

The Nepal skipper scored seven and nine sixes in his blistering knock and his team was able to chase down the target with four overs to spare. Nepal was able to restrict Singapore to 151 runs after the latter skipper Tim David won the toss and decided to bat first.

Paras Khadka becomes the first batsman to score a T20I century while chasing.

Singapore didn’t have a great start as their openers could add only 22 runs. The hosts’ skipper Tim David was able to hit the ground running as he scored 64 runs from 44 balls with the help of three fours and four sixes. KC Karan scalped two wickets for Nepal whereas Sandeep Lamichanne went wicketless but he was economical as he conceded only 18 runs in his four overs quota.

On the other hand, Nepal also didn’t get off to a great start as they lost Ishan Pandey early. However, Paras Khadka and Aarif Sheikh ensured no further damage was done as they added 145 runs for the second wicket.

Meanwhile, the other captains who have scored a T20I century are Aaron Finch, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Rohit Sharma, and Faf du Plessis.

However, all of these players have scored a century while batting first. In fact, Rohit Sharma who has four T20I hundreds has two centuries as captain. Furthermore, Virat Kohli is yet to score a century in the shortest format of the game.
