New Zealand Vs India 2020: First T20I, Auckland – India’s Predicted XI
Team India is going to begin the New Zealand tour with a Twenty20 International match on Friday (24th January) at Eden Park No. 1 (Auckland). It will be the first game of the five-match T20I series between the hosts Kiwis and the visitors India.
The Indian national cricket team does not have a good T20I record in New Zealand. While they lost both their previous bilateral T20I series in this country, they have won only one match out of five T20Is against the hosts New Zealand.
Here is the predicted XI for India for the upcoming Auckland T20I:
It is going to be the first T20I for Rohit Sharma in this year as he was rested from the previous home T20I series against Sri Lanka. Despite inconsistent performances in the last year, Rohit was India’s second most T20I run-scorer in that year. He is one of the crucial batsmen of this side.
KL Rahul (wk)
In the absence of Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul is most likely to take the opening batting role. The right-handed batsman is currently in very good form with the bat. In the last six T20I innings, he played five 40+ scores, including four half-centuries. He is currently one of the consistent batsmen in this team. As he has recently impressed as a wicketkeeper-batsman, Rahul can play the same role in the opening game of this T20I series.
Virat Kohli (C)
Indian captain Virat Kohli is one of the most consistent performers in the present international cricket. At present, he is the most T20I run-scorer. He is looking for building up a good team that can challenge every team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020.
In his early international career, Shreyas Iyer has impressed with his batting performances. However, he has not much experience away from home, especially he never played a T20I outside India. So, this tour is going to be a test for his batting.
In recent times, Manish Pandey impressed with his consistent batting performances in domestic cricket. However, he has to showcase the same form in international cricket to secure his spot.
In New Zealand, India needs a seam-bowling all-rounder to provide the bigger option in the playing XI. So, Shivam Dube is likely to be selected in the upcoming T20Is. Though he has impressed with his all-round skills in the early international career, he still has to prove himself by performing consistently.
The all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja always plays effective roles for his team. His presence provides strong deepness in every aspect for the team. Though he is not a regular T20I member yet, his experience can play a crucial role for his team in this tour.
The right-arm pacer Mohammed Shami is currently in very good form with the ball in hand. His accurate yorkers can trouble the hosts in the death overs. However, he has played only two T20Is in the last three years.
The right-arm pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah just returned to the game. He is taking time to return to his old familiar form. In most recent times, he was economical but failed to take wickets regularly. It is the first time he is touring in New Zealand with the senior team.
The right-arm pacer Navdeep Saini has impressed in his initial outings in limited-overs international cricket. He has also shown the ability to maintain good performances in the next matches.
The leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is currently struggling to pick up wickets in every match. Due to his poor form, he is hugely struggling to maintain his position in the national team. The New Zealand tour is going to be crucial for his career.
