Not MS Dhoni, Kamran Akmal Holds The Record Of Most First-Class Centuries By An Asian Wicketkeeper-Batsman 1

MS Dhoni may be regarded as one of the best captains that India have ever had but in terms of batting, he is far behind many wickeeper batsmen in the cricketing arena. As a batsman, he scored nine centuries in first-class cricket and 47 half-centuries.

Compared to other wicketkeepers, Dhoni has a better record term of wicketkeeping but in terms of batting, he does not hold many records. The list of most centuries by a wicketkeeper-batsman is topped by former England played Les Ames, who scored 56 first-class tons as a wicketkeeper-batsman.

Kamran Akmal comes next to him with 31 first-class tons. He scored his 31st ton recently in the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam trophy. Adam Gilchrist and Jim Parks come next to him with 29 and 27 tons, respectively. Chris Read and Kausha Silva have scored 26 tons in their respective careers.

Akmal, who is not in the scheme of things for now, has scored 12496 runs in first-class cricket in 236 matches that he has played so far.

As for Dhoni, the former India skipper retired for Test cricket in December 2014. He was team India’s most successful Test skipper until recently but Virat Kohli went past his wins records on the tour of West Indies. Dhoni had succeeded Anil Kumble as team India’s Test captain in 2008 and had a good record, albeit team India lost three series against England, one at home.

He is currently on a break from the game and is expected to make a comeback next year only. Dhoni was a part of Word Cup 2019 but took a break to serve the Indian army.

After completing his stint at the Indian army, he was expected to make his comeback but Dhoni isn’t a part of South Africa series and is also not expected to make it to the squad for the Bangladesh T20Is as well.
