New Zealand’s pack leader Tim Southee was successful in setting up the Indian captain Virat Kohli. Southee bowled in the corridor of uncertainty and tested Kohli on the outside edge. Kohli also showed the resistance as he left the balls which were on the fifth stump line. However, the talisman batsman could not pick the one which was coming into him.

Kohli was plumbed right in front of the wicket but he decided to go for the review but it was to no avail. Meanwhile, India posted 242 runs after Kane Williamson won the toss and decided to bowl first. The visitors had three half-centurions in Prithvi Shaw, Cheteshwar Pujara and Hanuma Vihari but none of them was able to convert their score to a substantial score.

Neil Wagner took one wicket whereas Tim Southee and Trent Boult bagged a brace. In fact, the Indian team was in good condition as they were 194-4. Vihari and Pujara added 81 runs for the fifth wicket partnership but the former was dismissed against the run of play.

The Andhra captain was looking to force the pace of the game but Neil Wagner had the last laugh. Pujara scored his 25th fifty whereas Vihari scored his fourth fifty of Test fold.

Subsequently, India veered off the track as they lost five wickets in the ongoing final session for five wickets. New Zealand has added 37 runs in the first ten overs without losing any wicket. The visitors are in need of wickets and would look to bounce back.
