Bangladesh opener Litton Das has left the 2023 World Cup midway through and returned home, citing a “family emergency.” It is reported that a hard-hitting batter from Dinajpur is expected to report to the national squad before their training session.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) publicity and communications manager, Rabeed Imam, confirmed the news surrounding Litton Das. According to reports, Litton Das and his spouse Debosri Biswas Sonchita are reportedly expecting their first kid, which could be a reason behind his flying home.

“Due to his family emergency, Liton took a leave and will join the team ahead of the team’s training session scheduled on November 3 in Delhi,” Imam stated.

Litton Das has amassed 225 runs at an average of 32.14 and a strike rate of 78.39 in seven games, including two half-centuries and a top score of 76 against England but could not lead his team to victory. Bangladesh was the first team to be officially eliminated from the 2023 World Cup and would be keen to perform well in the next two games to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Bangladesh opened their 2023 World Cup campaign with a convincing victory over Afghanistan at the HPCA Stadium, captained by captain Shakib Al Hasan, and the team was completely outplayed by Pakistan, South Africa, India, New Zealand, the Netherlands, and England. They won’t be able to finish in the top four even if they win those two games by big margins because they will only have six points.

The 2023 World Cup performance of Bangladesh has left their supporters feeling let down and the team was embroiled in a number of problems before the big tournament, including a huge falling out between veteran players Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan. It appears that their disagreement has negatively impacted the team dynamic, producing subpar outcomes.

The Tigers still have a lot riding on their shoulders in their next two games, even though their chances of making it to the 2023 World Cup semifinals are not possible. The team led by Shakib Al Hasan has a chance to qualify for the Champions Trophy if they win their next two games with significant margins and they made it into the semifinals of the 2017 Champions Trophy when the tournament was last held.
