The cricketing fraternity has seen till now various unique shots from world renowned cricketers, which has become their signature style.
We are acquainted Tilekaratne Dilshan’s Dilscoop, Kevin Pieterson’s switch hit, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Helicopter’s Shot which has provided enough entertainment to the audience, each time they were executed on the field.
Now it seems that there is going to be an addition to this list, the contributor being young Bangladesh opener, Soumya Sarkar and his shot being named as ‘periscope shot’ !
Yesterday, in the second T20 match between the hosts and South Africa, during the Bangladesh innings, Sarkar lofted a Kyle Abbot delivery over the short third man fielder David Weise. Weise marginally failed to catch the ball and it ran for a boundary.
While executing this shot, Sarkar moved his body behind the crease, bent himself in the reverse pose, aligned his bat along the path of the ball and directed it towards his desired direction.
This particular shot, from Sarkar, which comprised of perfect timing of the bat with the ball, reflected his accrobatic abilities and physical agility and one cannot deny that watching it was an absolute delight to the eyes. It has been tagged as the ‘periscope shot’ and has made him the latest sensation in the cricket world !
Well this so called ‘periscope shot’ does have a bit of similarity with the ‘upper cut’ which Virender Sehwag was an expert in playing. As a matter of fact, it might be an improvised version of the upper cut!
Well it is up to the fans now to decide its authenticity!
For now, we congratulate Soumya Sarkar for inventing(?) this shot and hope to see his ‘periscope shot’ frequently in the upcoming games.
