The Pakistan Super League (PSL) started with a bang where Quetta Gladiators clinched a comfortable victory against Islamabad United in the opening match.
After winning the toss, Quetta Gladiators’ skipper Sarfraz Ahmed decided to bowl first at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. In the beginning, the top order and top middle-order of Islamabad United collapsed in the front of discipline Gladiators bowling line-up. At one stage, Islamabad was struggling at 6/63 in 14.2 overs. But then, skipper Misbah-ul-Haq and Andre Russell played a quick-fire 57 run partnership to put a respectable total on the board. Misbah scored 41 runs in 28 balls while Russell played an unbeaten 35 runs knock from 20 balls. However, Islamabad managed only 128 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs while Gladiators’ spinner Mohammad Nawaz took 4 wickets in the innings.
Chasing down a modest total, Quetta Gladiators completed the target in just 16 overs, losing just 2 wickets in the process. Opener Luke Wright scored an unbeaten 86 runs while Mohammad Nawaz hit unbeaten 22 runs. Another Gladiator star batsman Kevin Pietersen only managed 8 runs in the opening match. For Islamabad, only Imran Khalid (2/20) picked up wickets.
Gladiators’ cricketer Mohammad Nawaz received the man of the match in the inaugural PSL match for his outstanding performance.
