India’s Test specialist bowler R Ashwin was one of the top performers for Tamil Nadu in the final of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy but he failed to steer his team past Karnataka, who won the final by just one run. With 13 runs needed in the final over, both the teams had their chances. Ashwin started the things on a positive note by hitting sending first two balls to boundary ropes.
However, TN managed three runs on the last four balls to lose the crunch tie. After fetching eight runs on the first balls, Ashwin was confident that TN will pull off a win and he also celebrated the boundary. Though it turned out to be a ‘Mushfiqur Rahim’ moment for him. Twitterati trolled the star player for celebrating even before winning the match –

During India vs Bangladesh T20 World Cup match in 2016, Mushfiqur famously celebrated after hitting Hardik Pandya for back to back fours. However, that tuned out to be a premature celebration as Pandya scalped two wickets in next two balls and MS Dhoni effected a run out on the final ball to lead India to a one-run victory.
Talking of the final of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Ashwin got the wickets of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal in the first powerplay. Devdutt Padikkal’s resistance and Manish Pandey’s 60* off 45 saw Karanataka put a total of 180 on the board.

Tamil Nadu lost four wickets in first 10 overs and were 80/4 at halfway stage. Vijay Shankar and Baba Aparajith put up 71 runs for the fifth wicket to take Tamil Nadu close but Aparajith’s dismissal derailed the chase.
Still, TN had their chance in the final over after Ashwin’s twin boundaries but Krishnappa Gowtham ensured a comeback for his side.

Defending champions Karnataka became the first team to retain the T20 trophy. They had kickstarted the domestic season with a title win in Vijay Hazare trophy there as well, where they got better off Dinesh Karthik-led Tamil Nadu.
