Former Indian skipper Rahul Dravid was able to beat the legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar to be voted as India’s best Test batsman in online poll, created by Wisden India. In fact, Rahul Dravid was initially trailing Tendulkar in the poll but the India’s former number three was able to make a comeback into the contest.

According to Wisden India, the poll, which was conducted on Facebook, saw 11400 fans polling votes in the final face-off between the two legendary batsmen. Dravid received 52 percent of the total votes to be crowned as a better Indian Test batsman.

Rahul Dravid had a great Test career

Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar scored 15921 runs in 200 Test matches at an average of 53.78 whereas Dravid scored 13288 runs in 164 Test matches at an average of 52.31. Sachin scored 51 Test centuries in his illustrious career whereas Dravid scored 36 Test centuries in his career.

On the other hand, Dravid’s performance was a tad better in the overseas conditions against SENA countries. The Wall scored 7690 runs in 94 Test matches away from home at 53.03 out which he scored 5443 runs in 64 Test matches at an average of 52 while playing in Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa and West Indies. Dravid had gathered headlines for his knock in the Kolkata (2001) and Adelaide Test (2002-03) against Australia.

Sachin, meanwhile, amassed 8705 runs at an average of 54.74 in 106 Test matches away from home with the help of 29 Test centuries. The Master Blaster scored his runs at an average of 49.79 while playing in Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa and West Indies.

16 Indian players had locked against each other in the poll. Tendulkar, Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar and Virat Kohli were able to make the final four. Dravid had surpassed Gavaskar whereas Tendulkar leapfrogged Kohli to reach the final. Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar defeated Virat Kohli to finish at the third place in the poll.
