Fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat came under-fire for his inability to take wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL) consistently. Rajasthan Royals (RR) splashed the cash to afford him for two years in a row but his performances were far from pleasing. The paceman was often criticised and trolled for his string of poor bowling spells.

The left-arm pacer who plays for Saurashtra raised his standards and went on to become the highest wicket-taking fast bowler in the Ranji Trophy tournament. He also carried the team to the Ranji Trophy final to face Bengal.

In January 2019, he became the second-ever bowler to bag 200 wickets in the Ranji Trophy for Saurashtra. Unadkat bagged a total of 65 wickets to his name in the 2019/20 season.

The fast bowler is just four wickets away from becoming the all-time highest wicket-taker in a Ranji Trophy season. Ashutosh Aman is the highest wicket-taker in a season as he bagged 68 wickets to his name.

Unadkat’s last international appearance came against Bangladesh at Colombo in 2018. However, since then he was overlooked by the selectors.

Well, after learning to remain consistent in the domestic arena, Jaydev Unadkat believes he will get his chance to play for Team India.

”I believe my chance will come and I will wait for it. Also, the age is on my side, I am 28. The way I have performed this season can be the benchmark I can set for myself for the rest of my career,” Unadkat told the Times of India.

Recently, Indian captain Virat Kohli had hinted that the management is scouting for possible replacements for the ageing fast bowlers – Mohammed Shami (29), Ishant Sharma (32) and Umesh Yadav (32).

And, this means that Unadkat can be looked up to by the Indian team selectors after his brilliant run in the premium domestic first-class league.
