Rashid Khan Desperate To Play T20I Tri-Series Final Against Bangladesh

Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan is doubtful for the final match of the T20I tri-series which they will play against the hosts Bangladesh on Tuesday (24th September). However, Rashid Khan is not giving up his hope before the final team selection moment.

The no.1-ranked T20I bowler Rashid Khan is undoubtedly a very crucial player for Afghanistan. During their last game in the round-robin stage of this series against Bangladesh on last Saturday (21st September), Rashid Khan received the hamstring injury.

Ahead of the final match, Rashid said according to ESPNcricinfo, “I shouldn’t have bowled (against Bangladesh) in the last game with an injury but I’d do anything for my country. I saw how Asghar Afghan played in the WC qualifier four days after his appendicitis operation, so if I have a 10% chance, I will always play.”

In the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2018, then Afghanistan captain Asghar Afghan had very low chance to feature in that tournament due to the appendicitis operation. But he featured in the late stage of that tournament and guided the national team to win that tournament. It also led Afghanistan to qualify for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019.

Zai said, “I cannot say that he will be available [for the final]. He is doing well and let’s see what’s happening. We will have two or three days for recovery. I hope it’s not that serious because he is our captain and main player and we will monitor him tomorrow before taking any decision.”

The 21-year-old leg-spinner Rashid Khan has taken six wickets in four matches of this series. During the round-robin stage, Afghanistan won the first two matches and lost the last two matches. While Bangladesh finished as the table-topper with six points, Afghanistan reached the final after managing four points.
