Ravichandran Ashwin Bags Five-For To Be 2nd Highest Wicket Taker In Tests At Home

Ravichandran Ashwin bagged the wickets of Dom Sibley, Dan Lawrence, and Ben Stokes to go past Harbhajan Singh’s tally on Day 2 of the 2nd Test in Chennai.

Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Sunday went past Harbhajan Singh on the list of most wickets on home soil during Day 2 of the 2nd Test against England in Chennai.

Ravichandran Ashwin Goes Past Harbhajan Singh To Become 2nd Highest Wicket Taker In Tests At Home

Senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Sunday surpassed Harbhajan Singh to become the second-highest wicket-taker in Tests played in India. He got past Harbhajan Singh, who took 265 wickets at an average of 28.76, by dismissing Ben Stokes with a perfect off-spinner on the second day of the second Test against England at Chennai.

Former India captain Anil Kumble leads the list with 350 wickets from 62 matches in India which includes 25 five-wicket hauls and 7 10-wicket hauls. Ravichandran Ashwin has picked up his 29th five-for in Test cricket. He now has 266 wickets from 45 matches averaging 22.69 with 22 five-fors and six 10-wicket hauls.

Meanwhile, India seized control of the second test against England on Sunday, posting 329 in their first innings before reducing the tourists to 134 on the second day at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.

England lost in-form captain Joe Root, whose spin proficiency would have been crucial on a pitch offering considerable turn to debutant spinner Axar Patel. Ravichandran Ashwin picked 5 wicket haul while Axar Patel and Ishant Sharma picked 2 scalps apiece. Mohammed Siraj picked the wicket of Ollie Pope while Ben Foakes remained unbeaten on 42.  India lead by 241 runs as they are 46/1 with Shubman Gill dismissed for 14 in 2nd innings.

Earlier, India’s opener Rohit Sharma scored 161 and Ajinkya Rahane complimented him by scoring a valiant 67 as India scored above 300 in a pitch offering turn from the 1st day itself unlike the first Test at the same venue.
