In Auckland, India faced defeat in the second game against New Zealand by 22 runs. Although the allrounder Ravindra Jadeja tried hard to lead the team to a victory. However, he failed to do so following his 76-run stand with Navdeep Saini. Interestingly, Jadeja in between has registered the new record in the 50-over fold.
Asked to bat first, New Zealand has set up a modest target of 274 runs. This target looked huge in front of the visitors as India lost wickets in quick succession.
India was at 129/6 when Jadeja came to rescue the team. He stitched a strong partnership of 76 runs with Saini for the ninth wicket.
Jadeja was the last man to stand for India. Eventually, he lost the wicket after scoring 55 off 73 deliveries.
Ravindra Jadeja bags incredible record:
Although India lost the series, the allrounder has added a new feat after scoring a fifty in Auckland. He has become the first Indian to score seven half-centuries at No.7 spot.
Before this, Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni have recorded six half-centuries each at the seventh position. Jadeja has surpassed the record of both the former Indian captains.
After the ICC World Cup 2019, India has first time lost the bilateral series. In the second game, Team India witnessed a complete failure of top-order and middle order. Within the powerplay, India lost their three batters. The youngster Shreyas Iyer gave the stability to the team but soon after scoring a century, he lost his wicket.
Surprisingly, the lower order batsman Navdeep Saini played a crucial knock of 45 runs. He struck five fours and two maximums. Saini adds a twist to the game but the hosts went on to prevail while bundling out India at 251 in 48.3 overs.
However, after losing the two matches, India will head to play the third ODI against New Zealand at Bay Oval on Tuesday.
