On the second day of the Sydney Test, Steve Smith was winning over all the Indian bowlers as he went on to score his maiden century of the ongoing Test series. But Ravindra Jadeja’s excellent throw cut short the Aussie’s awesome knock.
In the try to keep the strike to himself, Smith tried to grab a quick double but Jadeja hit the bulls-eye at the striker’s end to catch the centurion short of his crease. The Aussie batsman had to depart for 131 runs and his wicket fall also ended Australia’s first innings for 338 runs.
Apart from this run-out, Ravindra Jadeja also had an excellent day with the ball. He broke the 100-run stand between Marnus and Smith by picking the wicket of the former. Soon after, he also sends back Matthew Wade, who was trying to play aggressive cricket against him.
Besides sending the two crucial batsmen, Jadeja also notched the wickets of the tailenders Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon early. Overall, he registered a four-wicket haul and it would not be wrong to say fiver-fer considering the effective run-out of Steve Smith.
I will rewind and play this run-out: Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja has himself rated the runout above the four-wicket haul. Asked what will he like to watch between his two achievements on the second day, the allrounder replied that he would choose to watch the run-out again and again. He said that this was his best effort to date in his career.
“I will rewind and play this run-out as this is my best effort. A direct hit from outside the 30-yard circle and that’s like a moment that gives you that satisfaction.”
“Three or four wicket hauls are fine but this run-out will stay with me,” said the Saurashtra all-rounder.
Meanwhile, India is currently trailing by 242 runs at the loss of both the openers. Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane will start day three of the third Test.
