In cricket, India is currently one of the biggest country. Team’s sustainable performances in international cricket helped in the growth of popularity of the sports in the country.
It is a moment of joy for us when our country achieves any remarkable feats. But when India achieves something special which no other team or players achieved before India (or Indians), then it is a proud moment for us.
Now we talk about 5 popular incidents in international cricket which Indian team or Indian cricketer achieved first before others.
For these incidents, it can be said that India began a trend which are followed by others.
The first batsman to reach 10,000 runs in both Test and ODI career was an Indian
India’s legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar was the first man to complete 10,000 career runs in Test cricket. In the March 1987, Gavaskar completed 10,000 runs in his Test career. After him, 11 more batsmen have achieved this feat to date.
Meanwhile, there are a total of 11 batsmen to date who have completed 10,000 runs in ODI career. Another legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar was the first man to achieve this respectable feat in ODI history, as he had achieved this feat on 31st March 2001.
First World Cup hat-trick
A hat-trick is one of the proudest moment for any bowler. But when it happens in the ICC Cricket World Cup, then it becomes a massive feat for any bowler. Former Indian medium-pacer Chetan Sharma became the first bowler to take a hat-trick in Cricket World Cup. Many bowlers had claimed hat-trick before him in international cricket, but none of those were in Cricket World Cup.
In the 1987 Cricket World Cup, which was the 4th edition of Cricket World Cup, Indian right-arm medium fast bowler Chetan Sharma claimed a hat-trick against New Zealand (at Nagpur on 31st October 1987). Chetan Sharma bowled Ken Rutherford, Ian Smith and Ewen Chatfield in three consecutive deliveries to claim the first ever World Cup hat-trick.
After Chetan Sharma, 8 more bowlers have claimed hat-tricks in Cricket World Cup.
First 400+ total by a team in Cricket World Cup
Nowadays in ODI cricket, making a 400+ runs total is not an impossible task for a team. Even it has happened for 4 times in the Cricket World Cup. But the first team to score 400+ total in Cricket World Cup was India. In 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup, India had scored 413/5 against Bermuda (at Port of Spain on 19th march 2007), which was the first 400+ total by a team in Cricket World Cup. The previous best was 398/5 by Sri Lanka against Kenya (at Kandy on 6th march 1996).
First World T20 win
It was the inaugural edition of World T20 which had played in 2007, India became the champion after beating Pakistan in a nail-biting final match of the tournament. As many as 12 teams had taken participation in the inaugural World T20, but finally, India finished at the top. It was one of the proudest moment for India.
After that, 5 more World T20 have been organised to date but India has never won another World T20 trophy. In those 5 World T20 tournaments, Pakistan (2009), England (2010) and Sri Lanka (2014) had clinched the crown once while West Indies earned it for twice (2012 and 2016)
First ODI double centuries
There were many batsmen who had come very close to ODI double hundred but failed at the end. Indian legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar ended the jinx after successfully making an ODI double century (200*) against South Africa at Gwalior on 24th February 2010. After that, 5 more double century have been scored in ODI cricket.
