Recently, the young Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant spoke about his experiences on the recent Australia tour. He also said that he is eyeing the upcoming 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.
The 21-year-old Rishabh Pant had a great experience during the recent Australia tour. Since his international debut in February 2017, the young wicketkeeper is gradually growing up. But the Australia tour has shown his real potential to the game.
Though Rishabh Pant made his T20I debut in February 2017, his Test and ODI debuts were in last August and last October respectively. In his first Test series in 2018 England tour, Rishabh Pant scored his maiden Test century. In the final Test of that five-match Test series at The Oval, Rishabh Pant played a fighting knock of 114 runs. Though India failed to save that Test match, many experts praised his batting.
Later, in the home Test series against Windies, the young wicketkeeper-batsman played two consecutive nervous-nineties knocks. Those innings helped him to assure his spot for the Australia tour.
A remarkable Australia tour
However, the young man had not a pleasant experience in the early of the Australia tour. In the three-match T20I series in Australia, Rishabh Pant got the limited opportunities, and he failed to shine on those few chances.
Then he featured in the four-match Test series in Australia. As a wicketkeeper, the young wicketkeeper played a very crucial role for his team. Meanwhile, as a middle-order batsman, he played some consistent role before hitting a brilliant century in the final Test of the series.
After some consistent 20s and 30s in that Test series, Rishabh Pant played the unbeaten knock of 159 runs in the Sydney Test. While India won that historic series by 2-1, the young man was the second most run-scorer in that series as he scored 350 runs in seven innings with the average of 58.33.
Recently, he won the 2018 ICC emerging player of the year award. He was also included in ICC Test team of the year 2018.
Talking about his experience in recent Australia tour, Rishabh Pant said, “One of my biggest learning from the Australia tour is I now know how to play according to the situation.”
World Cup planning
In a recent interview with Aakash Chopra, Rishabh Pant also spoke about his view on the upcoming 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.
He said on that, “Yes, World Cup always be there on the back of my mind but I am focusing on one match at a time.”
Recently, many experts have defended him for the upcoming World Cup. The selection committee chairman MSK Prasad also said that Rishabh Pant is a part of India’s 2019 World Cup plans.
