Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu has played for Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians from 2010 to 2017 in IPL. Currently, he plays for MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings. So, he has the experience of playing under the two successful captains of IPL history. Rayudu has now shared the difference between the captaincy of Rohit and Dhoni.
Ambati Rayudu has won IPL titles for MI and CSK:
The right-hand batsman started his journey in IPL with the Mumbai Indians in 2010 when Rohit was not the captain. In 2013, Rohit took over the captaincy role and so far has led MI in four title wins. Rayudu was the part of three title wins, i.e., in 2013, 2015, and 2017.
In 2018, he shifted his base to CSK and played a crucial role in winning the title in the same year. Currently, he has been retained by the franchise for the impending season.
Rayudu opines the difference between Rohit and Dhoni’s captaincy:
Speaking to presenter Rupha Ramani on CSK’s Instagram Live session, Ambati Rayudu said that Dhoni had been the captain of most of the franchises’ skippers. So, Rohit has also learned the captaincy skill from the former Indian captain.
“Dhoni has been captain for all of us including MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli and so whatever Rohit is becoming is because of MS Dhoni. He has learned a lot from him, there won’t be much difference but I think he is going in the right direction. Long way to go for him and to achieve the success of Dhoni but I am sure he will get there,” Rayudu said.
Rayudu also reflected that he is more comfortable at CSK and the franchise backs the player. He also added that CSK would be his favourite team even after he retires from cricket.
“At CSK it’s pretty calm, they have a lot more faith in players’ ability, while MI is more ‘play-your-role’ kind of a setup.”
