Saba Karim, the former Indian cricketer has expressed his concerns over the recent dip in form of a star batter. India defeated the West Indies by 2 wickets to secure the three-match ODI on Sunday. Shikhar Dhawan-led Team India will meet the hosts in the 3rd ODI on Wednesday.
Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim has expressed his concerns over Suryakumar Yadav’s recent dip in form during the One Day International (ODI) series between India and the West Indies.
Suryakumar Yadav Failed To Score Much In The First 2 ODIs Of The Ongoing ODI Series Against West Indies
After scoring his maiden century for India in the England T20I series, the middle-order batter has registered a series of forgetful scores in the international arena. Suryakumar Yadav has struggled for form in the ongoing three-match ODI series between India and the West Indies.
While many expected Suryakumar Yadav to extend his free-scoring run after the England tour, the premier batter has played a series of disappointing knocks. The star batter scored 13 off 14 balls in the ODI series opener against the West Indies. In the series decider, the batter was dismissed for 9 off 8 balls.
Nicknamed SKY, the senior batter had smashed a stunning century against hosts England in a losing cause in the 3rd T20I at Trent Bridge. However, Suryakumar Yadav registered scores of 28 and 16 in the ODI series to cap off his England tour. After the hundred in the 3rd T20I against England, he is yet to make a substantial contribution with the bat in the four ODIs he has played since then.
Suryakumar Yadav scored 13 off 14 balls in the 1st ODI against hosts West Indies before being bowled by Akeal Hosein. He scored only 9 off 8 balls before being bowled by Kyle Mayers in the 2nd ODI.
The Mumbai batter has played 12 ODIs and amassed 332 runs at an average of 36.89. He also featured in 19 T20Is where he managed 537 runs at 38.35. He has hit 2 fifties in ODIs and 1 ton and 4 fifties in T20Is. He is known to bring out his best during pressure situations which was evident during the third T20I against hosts England where he scored a 55-ball 117 and helped India post 198 chasing a mammoth 216.
He was in fabulous touch with the bat on the England tour and slammed his maiden T20I hundred in the final match in Nottingham.
Saba Karim Would Like To See Suryakumar Yadav Become A Consistent Match Winner For India But He Hasn’t Been Able To Make The Most Of The Starts In ODIs
Speaking ahead of the 3rd ODI between India and the West Indies, ex-cricketer Saba Karim said that he would like to see Suryakumar Yadav become a consistent match-winner for India.
“I would like to see Suryakumar become a consistent match-winner for India. He scored a century in the T20I against England. But despite getting a number of chances (in ODIs), he hasn’t been able to make the most of the starts he got. This is not allowed in international cricket. When you have so much stroke-making ability, you need to make the most of it,” the former cricketer Saba Karim said.
Suryakumar Yadav has played 12 ODIs and 19 T20Is for India since his international debut in 2021. The 31-year-old has amassed 332 runs in the 50-over format. He has smashed 537 runs for the 2007 world champions in the shortest format. In the absence of several seasoned campaigners, India will meet West Indies in the 3rd ODI on Wednesday.
India has already taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series and is likely to test their bench before the five-T20I series gets underway. Regulars Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and Hardik Pandya will join the squad for the shortest format as India aims to apply the finishing touches before the 2022 T20I World Cup gets underway Down Under.
