After months of assumptions and rumours, it has been finally confirmed that Robin Uthappa will represent Saurashtra in the upcoming domestic season.
He had sent his application to the state board and the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA), after having talks with the right-handed batsman, accepted his proposal. Uthappa is the first and only professional player in the side.
“Robin Uthappa has completed all necessary formalities to BCCI [Board of Control for Cricket in India], Saurashtra Cricket Association [SCA] and Karnataka State Cricket Association [KSCA]. Saurashtra Cricket Association welcomes Robin Uthappa. SCA feels confident that Robin will add up strength to strong Ranji Team of Saurashtra with his vast experience and commendable performance,” Himanshu Shah, SCA’s media manager said.

Uthappa, a veteran of 130 first-class games, made his first-class debut for Karnataka in 2002/03 season and went onto represent the state for a period of 15 years till 2016/17. One of the most senior players of the side was dropped from the side unceremoniously for the quarterfinal of Ranji Trophy 2016/17, which did not come good to him.
The matter becomes bad to worse when he wasn’t included in the 15 member squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy along with Abhimanyu Mithun.
All the development led to a roadmap and Uthappa finally demanded an NOC from Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and later confirmed his exit from the state.
Earlier, there were expectations that he might play for Kerala due to the state association showing interesting in roping the Karnataka player but the deal did not finalise and in the end, Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) signed Arun Karthik as a second professional player. They already have Jalaj Saxena in form first professional player.

Coming back to Uthappa, the 31-year-old player is still hopeful of making an international comeback, which is only possible through regular appearances in the domestic cricket.
Uthappa will join the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Cheteshwar Pujara and Jaydev Shah on the Saurashtra team.
