Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh’s all-rounder stated that the BCB misinterpreted his letter for prioritizing the IPL and not playing the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is likely to reconsider the No Objection Certificate (NOC) given to the spinner all-rounder for the 2021 edition of the IPL.

Thereafter, Nazmul Hasan Papon, the BCB chief, called an impromptu meeting at his residence. According to the letter, the Magura-born Shakib Al Hasan stated that he picked playing in the IPL in order to prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup in India.

Shakib Al Hasan has played 63 IPL matches scoring 746 runs and taking 59 scalps. He played for Kolkata Knight Riders from 2011 to 2017 before moving to SunRisers Hyderabad in 2018 and 2019. He returns to KKR after being bought for his base price at IPL 2021 auction.

Akram Khan, who is the BCB Cricket Operation chairman, didn’t sound happy with Bangladesh’s all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s statements. He added that the board will reconsider the clearance it gave to him for the IPL.

“What does it imply? If someone is saying that I don’t want to tour Sri Lanka, where we have two Tests, to prepare for the World Cup then what does it actually mean?” Akram questioned.

“I heard that he said that I didn’t read his letter. Perhaps I misunderstood his letter. He wants to play Tests, from what he has said. In the next couple of days, we will discuss his NOC. If he has an interest, he will play Tests in Sri Lanka,” Akram was quoted as saying in Cricbuzz.

“I did not mention anywhere in my letter that I do not want to play Tests. I mentioned in my letter that I want to play in the IPL to prepare myself properly for World Cup (T20 World Cup) but despite that Akram Bhai (BCB cricket operation chairman) has repeatedly said that I do not want to play Tests,” Shakib had said.

It’s also been learned that the BCB’s top authorities were thinking of slapping him with a ban or even banning him for his code of conduct. The board directors are due to have another meeting surrounding the matter.

Shakib Al Hasan is currently on paternity leave and a few days back he became the father of a baby boy with his wife Umme Ahmed Shishir. Shakib Al Hasan also stated that his decision to play in the IPL was based around the preparations for the T20 World Cup in India later in 2021. He mentioned that by playing the IPL, he can garner desired experience and help his teammates out.

Earlier, Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan had received a two-year ban after failing to report corrupt approaches from a bookie. The International Cricket Council (ICC) banned Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan from all cricket for two years, with one year of that suspended, after he accepted three charges of breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code. The ban came into effect on 29 October 2019, and he was able to resume cricket on 29th October 2020. He played only 3 IPL games for SRH in 2019.
