Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar confirmed that he is in discussions with PCB regarding a top post in the country’s cricket set-up which is in all probability the chairman of the selector’s post replacing Misbah ul Haq. The PCB has plans to remove head coach Misbah ul Haq from the chief selector’s position and Shoaib Akhtar is reportedly being considered for the role.
Shoaib Akhtar’s name has been doing the rounds as PCB is seriously considering relieving head coach of Pakistan Misbah ul Haq off his dual responsibility and also because of PCB’s new code of ethics or Conflict of Interest policy. The Rawalpindi Express, however, refused to divulge details of his discussions with PCB top bosses.
Shoaib Akhtar Ready To Work For PCB If Opportunity Arises
Shoaib Akhtar, the former Pakistan cricketer said that he will definitely consider his decision provided Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) gives him an opportunity to work with them besides adding that he is presently in discussion with the board.
“I am probably one of the luckiest cricketers who has been very comfortable or blessed with many things in life that God has given me. But I am ready to leave this comfort and put my neck on the line for PCB,” Akhtar said during a YouTube show named ‘Cricket Baaz’.
“Yes, I can do that… If the opportunity arises, I will definitely consider it. There have been discussions. But something concrete has not yet happened,” he added.
Shoaib Akhtar also said that if he accepted the chief selector’s job he would manage it properly and he will work without the need of salary. For him the motivation is to build a pool of world-class players who will serve Pakistan cricket for a long time.
Shoaib Akhtar Praises Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma For Their Performances
The host of the show also asked Shoaib Akhtar about his opinion that his critics point out that he criticizes Pakistan cricket unlike Indian players. He said Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have scored many runs for India in international cricket and nothing else can be said about them other than praising them for their performance.
Replying to the host, Akhtar said: “I criticize India as well. But if Virat Kohli has 12,000 runs, what else you can say, Rohit Sharma as two double centuries in One Day cricket, what can you say. The enemy’s qualities should be known among us. Kohli has become the greatest batsman, what can you say, should I say he is a bad person or he is not a good player.”
He said that Indian cricket was moving forward because of their planning and aggressive mindset of players. While Indian skipper Virat Kohli has 70 international centuries, Rohit Sharma has hit three double centuries in ODI including the highest ever individual score of 264 in one-dayers.
