After facing a disappointing defeat against Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals Shreyas Iyer wants his team to have a strong mindset for the next qualifier match. He doesn’t want his teammates to take the defeat toll on them but bounce back stronger to capitalise on the next opportunity.
Delhi Capitals was once again trapped because of their poor batting performance. Opting to field first, they got the quick wicket of Rohit Sharma and soon set back Suryakumar Yadav and Quinton de Kock, who had started the rebuilding process. But Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya marred DC’s momentum and smashed them badly, giving 201 runs target.
In reply, Delhi Capitals lost the top-order, comprising of Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane, in the first two overs for zero runs. And the pressure fell on the shoulder of their captain Shreyas Iyer, but he could not play a big knock. Marcus Stoinis and Axar Patel tried to pull things back, but Bumrah broke their partnership. As a result, they lost the match by 57 runs.
In the post-match conference, Shreyas Iyer stated that he didn’t want to talk about what’s done and dusted but look to come back strongly in the next qualifier match.
“I don’t want to speak negatively about the team, but going forward it’s important to come with a strong mindset. It’s never too late, and we’ll see to it that we come back strongly, ” he said.
The DC skipper is happy with his team’s preparation amid the new norms and tiring bio-bubble. He believes that the key for them will be to have a good mindset because they have got the second opportunity.
“Every night can’t be yours. We keep talking about the opportunities that we get and it’s important to have a good mindset. It’s not easy to be in the bubble and follow the same routine, but the practice we have done over the last few days, I’m really happy with the boys and their preparations,” Shreyas Iyer said.
We’ll Look To Do Better In The Next Game: Shreyas Iyer
Iyer was full of praise of the veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who was the only biggest positive for them in the match. Ashwin got Rohit and Pollard for a duck while also broke the partnership of Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav by picking the wicket of the former. The young captain said that it was good to have the support of the experienced player.
“Ravi Ashwin was a positive for us tonight – he plays around with the batsmen’s head a lot, really good to have him in the team, and he’s quite an asset for us, especially me as a captain,” Shreyas Iyer added.
He added that it tough to get ahead when all the opposition batsmen are in great form, but he was looking forward to putting a better show in their next opportunity.
“All their batsmen are in great touch and Hardik/Pollard down the order are incredible. You can’t control the situation when all the batsmen are in good touch, but we’ll look to do better in the next game,” he concluded.
Delhi Capitals will play the second qualifier on November 8; however, their opponent will be decided after the eliminator match between RCB and SRH.
