Shreyas Iyer Reveals His Thought On Indian Team Captaincy In Future
The Indian youngster Shreyas Iyer has recently talked about his thought for his captaincy future in the Indian national cricket team.
In a very short time of his international career, the 25-year-old Shreyas Iyer has impressed with his batting skills. While the Indian team management was searching a consistent batsman for the no.4 batting position for a long time, Iyer has impressively managed to end this tension.
Iyer made his international debut in November 2017, and he has already played 18 ODIs and 22 T20Is. The right-handed batsman has scored 748 ODI runs (average 49.86) and 417 T20I runs (average 27.80).
At a very young age, Iyer has not only impressed as a batsman, but he is also a good captain. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), he is leading Delhi Capitals (DC) from the middle of 2018 edition, when the experienced Gautam Gambhir stepped down from that role.
After Iyer became the captain of the Delhi franchise, the team has improved in their game massively. In IPL 2019, Iyer-led DC advanced for the playoffs, which was their first IPL playoffs appearance since 2012 edition.
During the IPL 2019 playoffs, while the DC beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Eliminator (by two wickets), they ended the journey after suffering a six-wicket defeat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Qualifier 2. While Iyer has led the Delhi franchise in 24 matches, his team won 13 games and lost 10 times (other one had the tie result).
I just want to be in the moment and enjoy it right now: Shreyas Iyer
Though Iyer wants to lead India in future, he is not thinking about this in the present moment. He only wants to be in the present and enjoy these moments.
Iyer told Cricbuzz on Spicy Pitch, “Yes I have. I have not given a thought about it at the moment. I am thinking about the present. Not thinking much about my captaincy in the future. I just want to be in the moment and enjoy it right now.”
