Shubman Gill is confident that KKR will be able to qualify for playoffs despite being defeated by KXIP by eight wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL). After the defeat, KKR now hold the fifth spot on the points table while KXIP are in the 4th spot although both have 12 points.
KKR will next face CSK on 29th October and Rajasthan Royals on 1st November after another batting failure against Kings XI Punjab. Kolkata Knight Riders failed against RCB after managing only 84/8 in 20 overs.
Shubman Gill: Pretty Confident KKR Will Be Able To Qualify For Playoffs
Shubman Gill scored 57 off 45 balls while skipper Eoin Morgan scored 40 off 25 balls and Lockie Ferguson scored 24 not out off 13 balls. But apart from the trio, the remaining batsmen failed to notch double-digit scores.
“We have two more matches to go and we are pretty confident that we will be able to qualify for the playoffs,” Gill said during the post-match press conference.
Shubman Gill played a knock of 57 runs to help KKR post a total of 149 runs on the board against KXIP losing 9 wickets. Chris Gayle and Mandeep Singh scored half-centuries as the KL Rahul-led team chased down the target in the 19th over.
Shubman Gill: Lost Momentum After Eoin Morgan’s Dismissal
KKR were again under pressure after being reduced to 10/3 in the 2nd over but Eoin Morgan and Shubman Gill forged an 81-run partnership as KKR were cruising before Eoin Morgan fell with the score at 91/4 in the 10th over. KKR could manage only 57 runs in last 10 overs.
Gill further stated: “I think it was not our batters’ day. In the middle overs, we were going well, in nine overs, we were around 90/3. But after Morgan’s wicket, we lost momentum.”
“I think we were 15-20 runs short. In the middle overs, were not able to rotate the strike. If we would have been able to do that, we would have gotten 20-25 runs more,” he added.
Among the bowlers, KXIP pacer Mohammed Shami returned with figures of 3/35 while Chris Jordan and Ravi Bishnoi picked 2 wickets apiece while Glenn Maxwell and Murugan Ashwin picked 1 wicket apiece.
Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik failed to score while Sunil Narine and Rahul Tripathi failed to reach double-digit mark. Varun Chakravarthy and Lockie Ferguson picked up 1 wicket each in KXIP’s innings.
