Shubman Gill Shares How Yuvraj Singh Helped Him In His Career
Shubman Gill after his consistent performance in matches has given him a place in the Test squad against South Africa. It will help the player to fix his place in the senior team. Though it is surprising that the player got the call-up from the team so early, but his talent justifies it.
He hit a double ton in the unofficial Test match against West Indies A. In South Africa A tour in India, Shubman Gill played well against them in first Test Match. He played as the top-order batsman and scored 90 runs. He may also play as an opener against South Africa in the upcoming Test series.
The player will be eager to show his consistent performance in the upcoming home series also. Before playing with seniors in the Test match, he shared his journey in an interview and spoke about the players who motivated him.
He said when he was selected in the Punjab team, teammates Yuvraj Singh and Gurkeerat Singh supported him and guided him.
Gill told accroding to ESPNcricinfo, “When I graduated to the Punjab senior team, I was glad to be able to spend some time with Yuvraj Singh and Gurkeerat Singh. They have guided me along the way too.”

When Gill was asked what was Yuvraj’s advice as a senior player, he replied that he guided me to focus on the game. He advised the young player neither to sign any company nor distract himself with different offers.
“He’s spoken to me about keeping my focus on cricket and let other aspects of professional life (endorsements, player management) aside. Guidance is very important in these aspects. Yuvraj didn’t want me to sign with any player management company at the start of my career. He said ‘just go and play, forget about these things. I didn’t sign anyone”
Gill told that he adapted calm nature from his father who was his support system when he practised. His father patiently did bowling for him while doing the net practice.
“I am calm, but it’s also something I’ve learnt from my father – he had the patience and calmness to keep throwing 200-300 balls in the nets when I was a kid.”
