As India is still battling to handle coronavirus, the IPL 2020 has been postponed until further notice. While the future of this tournament is still doubtful amid coronavirus outbreak, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has wished to organise the IPL 2020 in Sri Lanka.

The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was initially scheduled to run between 29th March and 24th May 2020. Like most of the past times, India was ready to organise this tournament entirely. However, the novel COVID-19 or coronavirus has forced to postpone the tournament. This virus is dominating the world and India is also suffering from this as the number of coronavirus cases is continuously increasing along with the death reports, just like the many other countries.

We will be writing to the Indian cricket board soon: Sri Lanka Cricket President about their wish to host the IPL 2020

However, India’s neighbour country Sri Lanka is controlling the situation very well at the present moment. While the country has coronavirus cases only over 200, seven people have lost their lives. The SLC believes that the country will be clear of the coronavirus soon before India achieves the success. If the country achieves success in this plan, the SLC can host the IPL 2020. They will soon write a letter on this matter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

SLC President Shammi Silva told Reuters, “It looks like Sri Lanka will be clear of the coronavirus before India. If so, we can host the tournament here. We will be writing to the Indian cricket board soon.”

Due to the Indian general elections, the entire IPL 2009 and first-half of IPL 2014 were played outside India. South Africa hosted the entire IPL 2009. Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) hosted the first half of the IPL 2014 while India hosted the other half of that tournament.

The BCCI is sorting out some plans to organise the IPL 2020 successfully as the board is still hopeful about this tournament. However, the board has clarified that they are giving full priority to the health and they can only try to finalise the IPL 2020 if the situation gets controlled.
