Sri Lanka U19 secure quarter-final spot after snatching a close victory against Afghanistan U19

Sri Lanka U19 snatched victory against Afghanistan U19 to secure their place into the quarter-final in 2016 U19 Cricket World Cup at Sylhet. 

After winning the toss, Sri Lanka U19 elected to bat first in that Group B encounter. The openers started in good fashion but failed to capitalize their innings. After that, Sri Lankan batsmen collapsed like a house of cards. Only Charith Asalanka put some hard work against the Afghan bowlers who played a super knock of 71 runs. Sri Lanka U19 were bowled out for just 184 runs in 48.1 overs. Afghanistan youth bowler Shamsurrahman took 3 wickets in that innings.

Chasing the small total, Afghanistan U19 team’s wickets fell at the regular interval. Afghanistan team collapsed to 151/10 in 44.5 overs and fell 33 runs short of the Sri Lanka U19’s total. Only Waheedullah Shafaq (47) and Karim Janat (40) put some fight against Sri Lankan bowlers. All the Sri Lanka U19 bowlers bowled exceptionally well while Kamindu Mendis (3/36) picked up most wickets for Sri Lanka U19 in that match. Also Asalanka picked up 2 important wickets.

Asalanka received the man of the match award for his all-round performances.
