Bangladesh clinched a superb victory over Sri Lanka in the first ODI of the series at Dambulla. Sri Lanka decided to bowl first after winning the toss. Bangladesh batsmen batted very well, as they made 324/5 at the end of 50 overs.

In reply, Sri Lankan batters were hardly looking comfortable against the visiting bowlers. The hosts were bundled out for 234 runs (in 45.1 overs), as Bangladesh won One-Dayer by 90 runs.

With this victory, Bangladesh takes a one-nil lead in the three-match series.

  1. During this match, Bangladesh opening batsman Tamim Iqbal completed his 10,000 career runs in international cricket. Tamim became the first Bangladesh batsman to achieve this feat.

It is the second ODI century by a Bangladesh batsman against Sri Lanka and also the highest ODI score by a Bangladesh batsman against Sri Lanka. Tamim Iqbal himself was the first Bangladesh batsman to score an ODI ton (112 at Hambantota on 23rd March 2013) against Sri Lanka, which was also the previous highest ODI score by a Bangladesh batsman against the Islanders.

Also, it (127 runs) is the highest ODI score by a batsman at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. Previous highest was 124 by Shahid Afridi (Pakistan) against Bangladesh on 21st June 2010.

 

  1. Bangladesh batsmen Tamim Iqbal and Sabbir Rahman put an important 90 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket. It was Bangladesh’s highest ODI partnership for the second wicket against Sri Lanka. The previous record was 79 runs between Mominul Haque and Shamsur Rahman at Dhaka on 17th February 2014.

 

  1. Bangladesh batsmen Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan put an impressive 144 runs partnership for the 4th wicket. Here are some important stats of this partnership:

i) It is the highest ODI partnership for the 4th wicket by a visiting team against Sri Lanka on the Sri Lankan soil. The previous record was 143 runs between Indian batsmen Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni at Colombo (RPS) on 27th August 2008.

ii) It is Bangladesh’s highest ODI partnership for any wicket against Sri Lanka. Their previous record was for 100 runs between Manjural Islam Rana and Mohammad Ashraful (for the 5th wicket) at Colombo (RPS) on 23rd July 2004.

iii) It is Bangladesh’s second highest ODI partnership for any wicket outside their home soil. The record is for 160 runs between Imrul Kayes and Junaid Siddique (for the 2nd wicket) against Pakistan at Dambulla on 21st June 2010.

 

  1. Bangladesh made 324/5 at the end of 50 overs. It is the 3rd highest ODI total for Bangladesh. The top two in this list are: 329/6 against Pakistan at Dhaka on 17th April 2015 and 326/3 against Pakistan at Dhaka on 4th march 2014.

Also, this innings (324/5) is the fourth highest ODI total by a visiting team against Sri Lanka on the Sri Lankan soil. The top 3 in this list are: 363/5 by India at Colombo (RPS) on 3rd February 2009, 339/5 by South Africa at Hambantota on 12th July 2014 and 332/5 by India at Colombo (RPS) on 5th February 2009.

Meanwhile, this innings (324/5) is the second highest ODI total by a team at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. The record is 385/7 by Pakistan against Bangladesh on 21st June 2010.

 

  1. Sri Lankan pacer Lahiru Kumara was very expensive during his spell, as his bowling figure in the first ODI was 8-0-74-1 with 9.25 economy rate. Bowling 8 over or more in an ODI innings against Bangladesh, it is the highest economy rate by a bowler. The previous record was 8.50 by New Zealand pacer Mitchell McClenaghan (8-0-68-0) at Hamilton on 13th March 2015.
