Steve Smith made a heroic return from the 12-month ban has shown his same consistent outstanding performances. He has been in impeccable form in the ongoing Ashes series. In the 4th Test match of Ashes 2019, he hit a double ton and unleashed England. Nobody was able to stop the player from making 211 runs and Australia set a first-innings total of 497 runs.

He is being praised by everyone from media to senior players. Ricky Ponting addressed Steve Smith as a “genius” after his performance in 4th Test match. Australian media is labelling him as “Donald Bradman-like”.

“You hear all sorts of words, ‘genius’ is one that comes to mind,” Ponting told cricket.com.au when asked to sum up Smith’s knock.

Further, in his praise, Ricky Ponting said Smith’s concentration level is outstanding and also suggested how to get him out.

“A remarkable innings again. It’s his application to what he does. He just doesn’t make any mistakes. His concentration levels are obviously unbelievably good.”

“He’s only been out nine times lbw in his last 99 innings, so you know if you’re bowling straight you’re not going to get him out,” he said.

“The one thing you have to do is try and challenge the outside of his bat. He doesn’t miss it on the inside.”

Steve Smith to break Sir Donald Bradman records

The player didn’t play the third Test match because of concussion after being hit in the neck by Jofra Archer’s delivery during the second Test. If he was present at that match nobody knows how much he had scored.

“Double ton confirms Smith’s greatness,” The Sydney Daily Telegraph said in its headline.

“His score of 211 was an innings beyond significance for the match alone, it was one which took the batting genius beyond comparisons with anyone other than Sir Donald Bradman,” it said.

Last week, Steve Smith regained his no.1 position in the ICC Test batting ranking table ahead of the Indian skipper Virat Kohli.
