On Wednesday (4th March), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed the recommendations of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) for the two vacant posts of the senior men’s national selection committee panel. Sunil Joshi and Harvinder Singh are most likely to join with this committee.

Gagan Khoda and the previous chief of the selection committee MSK Prasad recently ended their respective terms of the roles of national selectors. Later, the BCCI appointed the CAC comprising Madan Lal, Rudra Pratap Singh and Sulakshana Naik to take the interviews of the shortlisted candidates for the vacant posts of the national selection committee.

The CAC has recommended Sunil Joshi and Harvinder Singh for the two vacant posts of the senior men’s national selection committee panel. The CAC has also recommended selecting Sunil Joshi as the Chairman of the selection committee. Earlier, the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly revealed that the most Test-capped cricketer among the selection committee will be appointed

Both Joshi and Singh may join soon with Devang Gandhi, Jatin Paranjpe and Sarandeep Singh in this selection committee panel. All the other three members of this five-member committee can hold their respective posts for one more year.

While Joshi played 15 Tests and 69 ODIs for India from 1996 to 2001, Harvinder played three Tests and 16 ODIs for India between 1997 and 2001. Joshi has also worked as the coach for various teams. Apart from coaching several domestic sides, Joshi played the spin bowling coach roles for Oman, Bangladesh and the USA national cricket teams. In the Indian Premier League (IPL),  Joshi was the spin bowling coach for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP).

Harvinder has also some coaching experiences, including for the Punjab Ranji cricket team.

The new selection committee will begin their journey with the selection process for the upcoming three-match home ODI series against South Africa. India will play the ODIs against South Africa on 12th, 15th and 18th March at Dharamshala, Lucknow and Kolkata respectively.
