Supreme Court Seeks Response From BCCI’s CoA for S Sreesanth’s ‘Innocent’ Claims

Supreme Court on January 30 (Wednesday) has sought a response from the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Committee of Administrators (CoA) regarding the documents filed by tainted Kerala-based bowler S Sreesanth. It’s pertinent to maintain that the fast bowler Sreesanth has pleaded innocence before the apex body in the 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing case.

Thus, it has pushed the apex body to ask the two-member committee comprised of Vinod Rai and Diana Edulji to furnish the response at the earliest. The 32-year-old Sreensath has presented additional documents before the court. It eventually saw the judiciary taking forward the matter at the behest.

Supreme Court urges CoA to respond Sreesanth additional’s documents:

According to the Asian News International (ANI), Supreme Court has asked the administrators to respond to the ‘innocent’ claims by Sreesanth. He has already served a five-year ban. However, the things between Board and Sreesanth haven’t been resolved. But as of now, Sreesanth could heave a sigh a relief.

The BCCI has often been critical regarding the potential return of 35-year-old right-arm pacer. Eventually, it has irked Sreesanth’s fans who suggested it has been the rigid approach from the Board.

It would be interesting to see how the Board would respond to a query of the Supreme Court.

Sreesanth in the ICC’s major events:

On September 2013, while representing Rajasthan Royals (RR), Sreesanth was banned for life by the disciplinary committee of the Board alongside Ankeet Chavan, however, the life ban was revoked later on. In October 2017, it was restored by Kerala High Court, as Sreesanth has challenged the verdict in the Supreme in February 2018.

Interestingly, was part of the Team India in 2007 ICC World Cup in South Africa. He was the man who took an easy catch of Pakistan’s Misbah-ul-Haq at the short fine-leg region on the bowling of Joginder Sharma which eventually handed a coveted trophy to India under the dynamic leadership of MS Dhoni.

In 2011 ODI World Cup, Sreesanth was the part of grand-finale at iconic Wankhede Stadium against Sri Lanka. India won the World Cup by six wickets. In that World Cup, Sreesanth played just two games included an opener against Bangladesh.

Sreesanth made his international debut in October 2005 against Sri Lanka at Nagpur. He went on to feature in 53 One-day Internationals, 27 Tests and 10 Twenty20 Internationals for Team India. He claimed 167 scalps across formats.
