On his 30th birthday, Karnataka right-arm medium-pacer Abhimanyu Mithun claimed a List A hat-trick against Tamil Nadu during the final of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019/20.

On Friday (25th October), Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are busy in the final of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019/20 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium (Bengaluru). After winning the toss, Karnataka decided to field first.

At early of the first innings, Tamil Nadu lost two quick wickets as the opener Murali Vijay (0) and no.3 batsman Ravichandran Ashwin (8).

However, another opener Abhinav Mukund and Baba Aparajith handled that situation very well and put a solid partnership. They provided a brilliant 124-run partnership for the third wicket. Mukund scored 85 off 110 balls and Aparajith scored 66 runs off 84 balls.

The middle-order batsmen Vijay Shankar (38) and Shahrukh Khan (27) also provided some crucial contributions.

Abhimanyu Mithun claimed the hat-trick in the final over of that innings

In the final over of that innings, Abhimanyu Mithun claimed his hat-trick. On the third, fourth and fifth ball of 50th over of that innings, Mithun dismissed Shahrukh Khan (27), M Mohammed (10) and Murugan Ashwin (0) respectively. Mithun made special his 30th birthday with this achievement.

Abhimanyu Mithun became the first player to claim a hat-trick in the final of Vijay Hazare Trophy. He also became the first Karnataka bowler to claim a List A hat-trick.

Earlier, Mithun also claimed the first-class hat-trick. On his first-class debut, during the 2009/10 Ranji Trophy Group Stage game against Uttar Pradesh, he claimed his first-class hat-trick.

After Murali Karthik, Mithun became the second bowler to claim a hat-trick in both Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Mithun finished that innings with the bowling figures of 9.5-0-34-5. His bowling massively helped Karnataka to bowl out Tamil Nadu for 252 runs (49.5 overs).

Abhimanyu Mithun has also played for the Indian national cricket team. He has played four Tests and five ODIs from 2010 to 2011. In his international career, Mithun has picked up nine and three wickets respectively.
