In the past three days, there is news of match-fixing from the different state-owned premier leagues. In Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), several players are being approached through Whatsapp messages for match-fixing. The Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has started the investigation into this matter. ACU’s Chief Ajit Singh recently stated that players like Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni can not be suspected.

Singh believes that big players like them can not involve themselves in such things. They much care about their reputation than money. They won’t destroy their images in public eyes.

“If you ask me, today in cricket, a star has much more to lose than gain if he gets involved in this. Imagine a Virat Kohli or Dhoni getting into this. Things don’t just move by money, it is also the reputation that counts. They can’t sacrifice their reputation for such things. They are far bigger than all this,” Ajit Singh said.

“Even if you are talking just in financial terms, do you think they will get involved — both in terms of the endorsement that they get because of their reputation and star power, as also the other benefits that they get.”

Ajit feels that the fixers are feeling pressure in Indian soil after committing such things so they flee outside the country. So it is a success for BCCI.

“The challenge before us is that majority of the corrupters are of Indian origin and they have started going out, which in turn shows that they are feeling the pressure in India and moving out which is a success for BCCI,” he smiled.

Though Indian cricket once again being seen in corruption. The Karnataka Premier League (KPL) is also under surveillance of BCCI. And as a report, two international cricketers are under inquiry for match-fixing charges.
