Virat Kohli said that he has no doubts in his mind in asking for paternity leave so that he could return home to be with his pregnant wife Anushka Sharma.
Virat Kohli is all set to fly back to Mumbai after the conclusion of the first Test between Australia and India which will be played at the Adelaide Oval from December 17 to 21.

Vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane will step into the skipper’s shoes in Virat Kohli’s absence. Virat Kohli is India’s most successful Test skipper with 33 wins in 55 games. Virat Kohli led India to Test series wins in West Indies, Sri Lanka and Australia.
His decision was met with praise from the Indian sporting fraternity and fans. Virat Kohli said he is “very excited” to welcome his first child with Anushka Sharma while talking about his home return.
“It’s a decision that was absolutely clear in my mind. As committed as you are to play for your country this is a very, very special moment in life that you want to be there for at any cost. It’s a blessed time and we’re very excited,” Virat Kohli said during an informal chat with Steve Smith on the eve of the Border-Gavaskar Test series opener.
Anushka Sharma is an Indian actress and producer who works in Hindi films. Born in Ayodhya and raised in Bangalore, she made her acting debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the highly successful romantic film Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008). She also acted in Band Baaja Baaraat (2010), Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012), NH10 (2015), Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016), Sui Dhaaga (2018), Sultan (2016), PK (2014) and biopic Sanju (2018). The couple married in Italy on 11 December 2017.

Virat Kohli also expressed full faith in Ajinkya Rahane‘s captaincy and wished him all the best for the remaining 3 Tests which he won’t be a part of.
“Firstly, Rahane and I have built mutual understanding over the years, we have had great partnerships batting together which is based on trust. Rahane has done a fantastic job in the two practice games, he seems to be very composed and he knows the strengths of our team and how we need to go.”
“We already know the template we play with and how we want to go about things. We are on the same page and I am sure Rahane will do a tremendous job in my absence,” Virat Kohli said in a virtual press conference.
Ajinkya Rahane previously led India in two Tests; one against Australia and one against Afghanistan and India won both of them. Ajinkya Rahane will be leading India in overseas for the first time.
