ToggleFormer Indian batting legend, Sunil Gavaskar has claimed that the current Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been the most impactful ODI player for team India in the last decade. Gavaskar stated that Kohli has won a staggering number of matches for the Men in Blue and that in itself makes him an obvious choice.
Virat Kohli made his debut for the India National Cricket Team in 2008 and ever since then, the young lad from Delhi has not looked back. Kohli has gone on to dominate world cricket in a never-seen-before fashion and his numbers speak for themselves.

“I think if you look as an individual, then certainly it’s got to be Virat Kohli, because if you look at the number of matches he’s won for India when India have been chasing big scores,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports’ show ‘Cricket Connected’.
“I look at the impact a player has had, and not just the runs or wickets that he has taken, and in that aspect, you have got to say that in this decade it really has been Virat Kohli who has had the most impact on the matches that India has won,” Gavaskar added.

Virat has played a total of 80 Test matches and scored 7240 runs at an average of 53.63. The Indian skipper also has 27 centuries, 7 double hundreds, and 22 half-centuries to his name in the longest format of the game. In the ODIs, the batting great has played 251 games and smashed 12040 runs at an average of 59.31, smashing 43 tons and 60 half-centuries.
In the shortest format of the game, Virat has played 84 matches and scored 2928 runs at an average of 50.48 with 25 half-centuries in his bag. In the IPL, he has been the leading run-scorer as he has smashed 5878 runs in 192 games at an average of 38.17.
