England Test captain Joe Root has stated that the Indian captain Virat Kohli is the complete player among the fab four across the formats.
Apart from Virat Kohli and Joe Root, the fab four comprise of New Zealand captain Kane Williamson and Australian captain Steve Smith.
While talking to ESPNCricinfo, Root said that he admires the way Virat chase down the target in limited-over formats. He said that the flamboyant batsman was extraordinary with the way he built the innings to take the team across the line.
“Virat is probably the most complete player out of the three of them across formats.
“His ability to chase things down in the limited-overs format and to pace it as well as he does as often as he does and be not out at the end is extraordinary,” Root was quoted as saying by ‘ESPNCricinfo’.
Hard to say, Virat Kohli is weak against any bowler: Joe Root
Joe Root was full of praise of Kohli, stating that the flaws of the Indian captain are hard to find.
“He’s got a very good all-around game but you wouldn’t say he’s weaker against spin or pace,” he said.
The England Test cricketer pointed out that Kohli had struggled when he first toured England, registering the worst average in Test, but he followed up by producing 894 runs across the three formats. Root was impressed with Kohli’s strong comeback.
“He obviously struggled on his first tour to England, but he scored really heavily when he came back. And similarly, elsewhere in the world, he’s put in massive performances. All that with the weight of India on his shoulders, as well,” Root said.
Next year, England is scheduled to tour India to play the Test series. England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had requested the Board of Control of India (BCCI) to host the series in UAE, but BCCI has been firm to host it at home.
