After India crashed out of World Cup 2019, reports regarding a rift between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma started to make rounds. Reports suggested that there were two different teams within the Indian team; one with players on Virat’s side and other team consisting of players on Rohit’s side.

In fact, a report also mentioned that Virat Kohli was set to be removed as the captain of the ODI and T20I team, with Rohit taking the job in two formats. Amidst all this, India’s bowling coach Bharat Arun has commented on the relationship between the duo and as per him, they get along very well.

“It has to be seen to be believed. Rohit often runs up to Kohli to discuss things. They get along very well, share great admiration for each other’s ability. Kohli led the side well, is maturing as a captain and it’s nice that he has Rohit for support. The spirit in the camp was wonderful throughout,” he told The Hindu.

It wasn’t the first time that a rift between the duo came out but no official comments have been made so far. Team India’s bowling coach, with his comments, sort of clarified that there is no rift in the Indian cricket team.

Rohit could have led India in limited-overs cricket for the tour of West Indies had Kohli taken a rest. He looks set to tour West India for the complete series, which will see him lead team India across formats as there seem to be no plans for split captaincy for now.

Also team India has a good record under Kohli and there is no reason why the selectors will move ahead of the regular captain. It is to be noted that in 2017, MS Dhoni stepped down from the post of captain of the limited-over squad because he thought that split captaincy does not work in India.

For a long time, he remained the captain of team India across formats and after retiring from Test cricket, he continued to lead Men in Blue. Two years prior to World Cup, he handed the job to Kohli.

Going ahead, India are set to tour West Indies next month where they play three T20Is, three ODIs and two Test matches. The selection of the squads for the tour will be done tomorrow. Kohli will Also attend the meeting.

Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya are expected to be rested at least for the limited-overs leg of the tour.
