ToggleIndian skipper Virat Kohli has bagged many batting records under his belt. On Wednesday, after scoring a half-century in the first ODI against New Zealand, he has surpassed the record of former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly.
Coming to bat at No.3, Kohli stitched a healthy partnership with the youngster Shreyas Iyer. Both recorded 102-run partnership before Kohli lost his wicket to the spinner, Ish Sodhi.

However, Kohli after slamming a fine half-century has surpassed the record of Ganguly in the list of most ODI runs by an Indian captain. While the list is topped by the former Indian captain MS Dhoni, who is currently on the sabbatical break from cricket.
At No. 4 in the list, Ganguly, who is now BCCI’s president, has scored 5104 in his career as a captain. Whereas Mohammad Azharuddin is second on the list with 5243 runs.
Now, Kohli is at No.3 in the list of most ODI runs as captain with 5123 runs.

Asked to bat first, in Hamilton, Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal played the maiden ODI against New Zealand. Both could not give a good start to the Indian Team. The hard-hitting batsman Shaw lost the wicket after scoring just 20 runs. Soon after, Mayank Agarwal lost his wicket in ninth over.
Thereon, Kohli and Iyer gave stability to the team before the skipper lost his wicket. However, Iyer and Rahul went on to take the innings forward.
Virat’s deputy Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the New Zealand tour because of a calf injury. Rohit surfaced with the injury in the last T20I matches against Kiwis. Earlier, Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out from the tour. Thus, Team India is currently playing without their two major openers.
