The Indian Sports Honours second edition was held at SVP Stadium in Mumbai on Friday (27 September). Indian national cricket team’s skipper Virat Kohli attended the event with his wife Anushka Sharma. The duo shared the picture on Social Media.

Virat Kohli with the partnership of the chairman of RP-SG Group, Sanjiv Goenka organised this initiative where the best players are awarded. The event was scheduled on February but it was postponed due to Pulwama attack.

In total, 17 awards were given under different category to the Indian sportsperson. 11 awards are decided by the jury and the remaining six winners are decided by online voting through twitter. The nominations were submitted by 200 journalists from the Sports Journalists Federation of India (SJFI). The winners decided by the jury consists of highly talented people Pullela Gopichand, Abhinav Bindra, Sardar Singh, Mahesh Bhupathi, P T Usha and Anjali Bhagwat.

Virat Kohli with his wife looked stunning in the event. From Bollywood actors to Indian sportsperson attended the event. From cricket world, Yuvraj Singh with his wife Hazel Keech, Zaheer Khan with wife Sagarika Ghatge, Ajinkya Rahane and Smriti Mandhana all came to the event.

Virat Kohli has always supported athletes through various initiatives. Through Virat Kohli Foundation, the player has given the right platform to the deserving athletes.

“I always believe that sports is an integral part of every individual’s life starting from school and eventually translating to supporting their favourite athletes on TV and during sporting events. I am confident that these awards are a stepping stone which will further encourage talent to excel in their own category of sports,” Kohli was quoted as saying by PTI.

Speaking about the award show, Goenka said: “We are thrilled to host the second edition of the Indian Sports Honours. Indian athletes showcase hard work and perseverance consistently to put India on the world map for their sport.
